How It Works

To create a faster, inclusive and transparent experience, we have multiple active submission periods a year where founders can submit their business for Backbone to review and consider investment.

We are currently accepting applications from March 8th, 2022 until April 19, 2022. Within two weeks of your submission, you’ll hear back from one of the angels. If selected, you will receive an invite to pitch (virtual) the interested angels to discuss your business.

By May 18th, 2022, you’ll be notified about our final investment decisions. If your round is closing sooner to our application cycle, please stipulate that on our application form.

Submissions

Submission criteria
  • Your founding team and founder share allocation must have women or non-binary representation

  • You must be solving a problem in a unique or scalable way, and ready to take on external capital

What to submit

To help us understand you and your business best, we ask that your deck, video, or supporting materials answers these questions:

  • Why you started this business

  • What’s your primary product and what’s the business model

  • What makes you and your business uniquely positioned in the market

  • What does your traction and next phase of growth look like

  • What does your raise look like: round, how much, and at what evaluation

  • What is you and your team’s background + make up

  • Are you interested in working with our extended network of other angel investors?

  • Include any supporting materials (product demos, funding memo, etc.)

When will the applicants be notified?

We will notify all applicants within two weeks of their submission if there is investment interest or not. If you are selected to pitch to the broader group, we will send you info about our pitch session and tips on how to prepare.

How many applications will likely be accepted?

We are not setting a minimum or maximum on applications, as we invest in companies throughout the year as a collective and as individuals. We will review as many applications that come through during the application window.

What happens after I’m accepted?

Congrats! Now you’ll get more info about our virtual pitch sessions and have the opportunity to prepare for them.
